Breast Lift

With time, the skin's elasticity diminishes. For women, this can lead to a loss of shape, firmness and fullness in the breasts as well as sagging of the breasts. These conditions can be further aggravated by pregnancy, nursing, weight loss and simple gravity. A surgical procedure known as the breast lift can improve sagging breasts by raising and reshaping them.

The breast lift not only targets sagging of the breasts, it can also balance out differences in breast shape or size, minimize the size of large areolas, and improve the perkiness of the breasts. These changes can, in turn, help to improve the overall body contour. While the breast lift may be performed on its own, it is often combined with breast augmentation with the use of implants.

Surgical Procedure
Michael Diaz, MD goal for breast lift and breast augmentation is to provide his patients with an enhanced yet natural look that allows them to feel more beautiful and more confident. He performs the breast lift on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia. Surgical times average one-and-a-half to three-and-a-half hours. There are several different techniques for the location of the incisions and the surgery itself. During the consultation, and after a careful examination and evaluation, Michael Diaz, MD will explain in detail the surgical procedure and techniques available to you. The incision may be made around the areola with an additional incision running vertically on the center of the breast. Another option is an anchor-shaped incision which follows along the natural contour of the breast. Working through the incision, excess skin is removed, the nipple and areola are elevated, and the breast is reshaped.

Post Surgery
On completion of the surgery, patients are given a surgical bra to wear. Bruising and swelling are common during the first few days. Discomfort is usually minor, though Michael Diaz, MD will prescribe pain medication. You will recover at home for about three to four days. Non-strenuous work and most other activities may be resumed within about a week, while you can expect to return to your full activities after one month. The skin will heal and stretch over the following weeks after surgery, allowing for a more natural breast shape.
