Over time, the repeated muscle contraction caused by certain facial expressions can result in lines and creases in the skin, such as frown lines and forehead furrows.
Botox is an injectable treatment able to improve the appearance of certain expression lines. When injected beneath the skin, Botox temporarily weakens the facial muscle, thus relaxing the surface of the skin and removing the line or wrinkle.
Botox is effective in treating horizontal forehead lines, vertical brow creases, crow’s feet, and prominent vertical bands in the neck. Botox cannot treat an aging neckline, jowls, or some deeper lines and creases. These conditions may be better treated with a facelift or other procedure, which may be performed separately or in combination with Botox treatment.
Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS performs the Botox treatment in the comfort of the office. A topical anesthetic or other numbing agent may be used for maximum comfort. Treatment is quick, often taking as little as ten minutes to complete. Recovery is minimal and most patients can resume work and other normal activities immediately after treatment. Patients will begin to see improvement within about three to five days, and results last three to six months on average.
