With time, the natural collagen layer that supports the skin begins to weaken, resulting in facial lines and wrinkles. Fortunately, there is help. At the Center for Facial Cosmetic Surgery, we use several soft tissue fillers as a non-surgical solution for rebuilding the skin’s natural support layer, restoring a smoother, more youthful appearance to the facial skin.
Restylane and Juvederm are soft tissue fillers which are comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance which already exists in the human body, while Radiesse is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a biocompatible substance identical to what’s naturally found in the body. These fillers can improve the appearance of laugh lines, smile lines, facial folds and creases, crow’s feet and some scars. Deeper lines, creases and scars, as well as an aging neckline and jowls, cannot be treated with these injectables. Other procedures, such as a facelift, may be better able to treat these conditions and may be performed separately or in conjunction with injectable filler treatment.
As an experienced specialist in facial plastic surgery, Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS has extensive experience with soft tissue fillers. He uses Radiesse, Restylane and Juvederm to improve expression lines and wrinkles, smooth facial folds, enhance the lip border, and add fullness to the lips.
Injectable filler treatments are performed in the comfort of the office and take just fifteen to thirty minutes to complete. A topical or local anesthetic or other numbing agent may be used. Recovery is minimal and patients are able to immediately return to work and most other normal activities. Patients will notice visible improvement in facial wrinkles or a more defined lip border after just one session. While results will vary, Restylane and Juvederm generally last six months or longer and Radiesse may last up to one to two years.
